Acupuncture is highly efficacious for the treatment of facial paralysis.
Bell’s Palsy is paralysis of the facial nerve (cranial nerve number VII). The face can droop, feel numb, and there is an inability to control the facial muscles. This is an inflammatory condition which is marked by rapid onset and a slow healing process. Some cases resolve by themselves over a period of time. Other cases self-improve but do not completely heal without acupuncture treatments.
Acupuncture speeds the healing process and provides for 100% resolution of the condition in the majority of cases. In some cases where acupuncture treatment is not performed, patients may be left with a slight drool, eye closure issues, or speech impediment. It is highly recommended that those suffering from Bell’s Palsy get acupuncture treatment as soon as possible for the best results. Nonetheless, I have seen cases of unresolved Bell’s Palsy present for a first time ever acupuncture treatment as much as 2 years after onset and the patients improve despite the time lag between onset and treatment.
I have treated patients for this condition for many years. The treatment is comfortable and marked by deep relaxation. Many patients fall asleep during the acupuncture treatment. Most of all, I look forward to seeing my patients’ eyes open and close properly, foreheads move, cheeks balance, and grand smiles return.
